At Longview Alternator & Starter Co., we have been providing alternators, starters, and battery cables since 1985. Our team focuses on starters for trucks, tractors, ATVs, and heavy equipment, and we can help you find the components you need when your engine goes bad. In this article, we will focus on ATV starters, going over a few signs to look for in order to determine whether you need a replacement.
- Inconsistent Starting – One clear sign something is wrong with your ATV starter is the engine failing to start consistently. If your ATV starter is working, you should have no trouble getting the motor running. On the other hand, if it takes multiple tries to get the engine to turn over, then you likely need an ATV starter replacement.
- Battery Drain – Another sign you may need an ATV starter replacement is your engine’s battery draining too quickly. When your ATV engine is working right, the alternator will keep the battery charged, adding more energy than is drained by the starter. If your ATV’s battery can’t seem to hold a charge, we encourage you to get your starter checked.
- Click with No Crank – A third sign you may need an ATV starter replacement is a phenomenon commonly called “click, no crank.” This phrase refers to the starter solenoid engaging with the motor, producing a clicking sound, but the motor failing to crank in response. If you hear this clicking sound when turning the ignition of your ATV, we encourage you to get your starter replaced.
